Easter Egg Hunt Report

I am frequently reminded by Pastor Taylor Field of East 7th Baptist Church in Manhattan that our plan B is often God’s plan A. Such was definitely the case with the 6th annual Graffiti 2 Easter Egg Hunt. Despite an onslaught of rain at the event on Saturday, April 23, Graffiti 2 experienced God’s blessings and was able to help bless the community of Mott Haven.

The blessings began the week prior to the event. Volunteers from our church, neighborhood and across the country joined together to prepare, publicize and pray for the event. The camaraderie experienced by the Family of God was sweet. Many contributed their time and effort, but a special thanks goes to South Gate Baptist Church from Springfield, MO.

During that week, Graffiti 2 hosted music and drama camps for children and youth. Children learned two songs and the youth learned two drama skits. Both of these groups were prepping to perform at the Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Worship service.

On Saturday, April 23, volunteers came with umbrella in hand to the Betances Community Center at 9 am. Over 100 volunteers from churches in New York City, across the country and even Canada were on hand. NYPD Explorers from 4 precincts provided invaluable assistance. People joined together and prepared to host the event indoors at the Betances Community Center.

Because of the rain Graffiti 2’s Easter Egg Hunt became an Easter Carnival. Nearly 400 people came to participate in face painting, games, music, and free concessions (popcorn and cotton candy). Every person also received a free gift bag courtesy of World Vision. Graffiti 2 children and youth performed their songs and skits that they had prepared earlier in the week. Both groups did an outstanding job communicating the Gospel in these creative ways.

This year we were blessed to have Bombin the clown back to perform and present the Gospel. He entertained the crowd for over 30 minutes with antics and magic and presented the Gospel quite powerfully. Thirteen people came forward to accept Christ in their life. Over 20 others requested prayer at the event.

Praise God for His faithfulness and provision.
