Go Yankees!

Recently, Graffiti 2 was blessed to receive a block of baseball tickets to see the Yankees play the Los Angeles Angels. On Sunday evening, April 27 I walked to the subway to take the train to the stadium. As I went through the turnstile and walked onto the platform I immediately noticed one of our after-school first graders and some of his family. Proudly dressed in Yankees attire, he ran up to me and excitedly told me that he was going to see his team play. Thankfully, he was equally pleased to learn that I would be there, too. We enjoyed good conversation all the way to the stadium, and when we got to our seats we saw that many other Graffiti 2 Church and after-school families had already arrived. As they took their seats and I went to mine, I noticed that many others from our neighborhood trickled in over the next hour or two. While it was great to see so many of our families, it was greater still to realize that collectively all of us from Graffiti 2 make up the proverbial “one big happy family.”

There is a line from a baseball anthem that we all know that says, “Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don’t care if I never get back.” Well, a bag of Cracker Jack is $6.00 at Yankee Stadium and by the top of the 6th I was sleepy and couldn’t wait to get back. But, while not a baseball fan, for those couple of hours I could not think of anywhere in the world I’d rather be than in Yankee Stadium in the Bronx with my family.
